Scenic mountain views from the pool, direct mall access and suite-level comfort at a mid-range price in one of Malaysia's most underrated towns
This Novotel Taiping Perak review covers a property that surprised me with one of the most scenic pool backdrops in the entire Malaysia catalog — and a hotel that makes a strong case for adding Taiping to your itinerary.
Taiping sits between Kuala Lumpur and Penang making it a natural stop for anyone traveling that route — and a genuinely underrated destination in its own right. The Novotel connects directly to DRUM Taiping Mall, giving you immediate access to food, shopping and air-conditioned wandering without stepping outside. A food market across the street adds a local dining option for anyone who prefers something more authentic.
I was upgraded to a suite on this stay through Accor status — spacious, well equipped with a large bed and solid counter space, and a clean typical Southeast Asian bathroom setup. Above average comfort for a mid-range property.
The pool deck is the standout feature. The mountain views from up there are among the most scenic hotel pool backdrops I have encountered anywhere in Malaysia — the kind of view that makes you stay longer than planned. A children’s play area sits right next to the main amenities making this one of the more family-friendly properties in the catalog.
The fitness center covers the essentials. Breakfast mixes local and Western options with fresh fruit, pastries and plenty of toast.
A solid mid-range option that works well as a destination stay or a comfortable stopover between KL and Penang.
