A surprisingly well-equipped airport hotel — the suite kitchen alone makes it stand out from the competition near YVR.
The Holiday Inn Express and Suites Richmond sits in a good position for travelers passing through Vancouver International Airport — close enough for a layover, practical enough for an extended stay. IHG status was recognized with a suite upgrade, and the suite is genuinely impressive for this category.
The kitchen is the headline feature: full-size fridge and freezer, microwave, stovetop, dishwasher, toaster, utensils, plates, bowls, cups, and glasses. A dishwasher in a hotel room is rare — this is only the second one encountered across the entire Crash Course Hotels catalog. If you’re staying for more than a couple of nights and want to eat in, this room makes that genuinely comfortable. The living area and separate bedroom round out the suite layout nicely. Bathroom is on the smaller side but functional, with hairdryer pre-positioned at the sink rather than tucked away in a drawer.
The lobby is compact but well thought out — a convenience store for late-night snacks and drinks, and an ATM that’s safe to use without worrying about skimmers. Small details that matter when you arrive late.
Amenities beyond the room are a mixed bag in the best way. The basketball court is a legitimate surprise — an unusual amenity at this price point, and one that was actually in use during the stay. The self-service laundry is well set up with counter space for folding — always a practical plus for extended stays or long trips. The indoor heated pool and jacuzzi are solid. The gym is smaller than ideal but includes a scale, which earns it some credit. Breakfast covers the basics — hash browns, sausage, pancakes, and cinnamon rolls — nothing elaborate, but enough to start the day without leaving the property.
